Jorge Mull is Using Technology to Better Understand Human Behavior

Technology has revolutionized the way in which people live. This is especially true with advancements in digital technology. Not surprisingly, the world of medicine is one of those areas that has benefitted tremendously from modern technology. Not a day goes by without at least one article in a newspaper that talks about some sort of progress being made in medicine. This is thanks to in large part because of researchers such as Jorge Moll. Jorge is the president of the D’Or Institute for Research and Education. The D’Or group is one of the largest private hospital groups in Brazil.

 

Jorge Moll’s main interest of study is neurology, in the context of human behavior (fehosul.org). The exact term for this type of study is called moral cognitive neurosciences. It is the study of social cognition and human behavior, which is found in a unique way in humans. Using modern technology, researchers such as Jorge are finding that certain areas of the brain are playing an important role in moral cognition. The importance of this is that it is giving researchers new understanding on social behavioral impairments in certain people.

 

Jorge has two degrees, one is an MD and the other a Ph.D. He got the degrees from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 1994 and 1997, respectively. He did his residency at the university itself in neurology. His Ph.D. is in Experimental Pathophysiology and his thesis had to do with FMRI in Moral Judgment and Sensitivity. He is also a Post-Doctorate research fellow at the National Institute of health. Apart from being the President of D’Or Institute for Research and Education, he is the head of the Cognitive and Behavioural Neuroscience Unit at the same institution. Jorge currently lives in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with his family.
